"It's not that easy to find a relaxing spot in busy Glebe Point Road, but Sappho Books, Café and Wine Bar is something of an oasis, a refuge from the traffic and bustle outside.
In the Glebe hotspot of markets, cafes and shopping centre, Sappho holds its own with a laid back charm and appealing vibe. Walk through the doors and immediately the smell of old books and fresh coffee soothe the senses and make you feel at home.
One of Sydney's best loved second hand bookshops, Sappho boasts an extensive range of titles across all genres. Music lovers can head upstairs to De Cappo, where two rooms full of sheet music treats at exceptional prices promise to delight. The love of all things literary and musical is furthered with monthly music nights and poetry readings, attracting an eclectic but appreciative audience.
Sappho is much more than a bookshop, however; head out the back to the funky graffitied courtyard and a treat awaits. A café by day and wine and tapas bar by night. Sappho really hits its stride with the relaxed way that great food, conversation, and books all flow into each other. Students hunched over textbooks, yuppies with iPhones and parents battling strollers all mix easily in the welcoming environment, and solid service and high quality food and drinks, including seriously yummy sangria, ensure repeat many repeat customers.

Opposite Glebe Primary School, the site of the popular Glebe Markets, Sappho Books has offered browsers the ideal used-bookshop-experience for over a decade. We buy and sell used books and have two floors of packed bookshelves for you to browse.
At the rear of the shop is Sydney's acclaimed Sappho Cafe, Wine & Tapas bar - a popular Glebe destination. By day, the cafe is a favourite meeting place for university students, tourists, locals and the occasional celebrity. By night the wine and tapas bar boasts an eclectic crowd out for a different Sydney experience.
The courtyard at the rear of the rambling building (circa 1880s) is home to a generation of graffiti – a legacy of its former life as a youth centre. Rather than white-wash the history of Sappho’s new home, owner Meredith Baillie has made the street-art a feature of the inviting garden courtyard.
