Sappho Books, Cafe & Bar

We are one of Sydney's favourite general second-hand Bookstores. Walk through to our beautiful courtyard Cafe that transforms into a tapas Bar at night. We are also now home to Da Capo Music Bookshop, the only dedicated second-hand sheet music store in Australia. We buy and sell used books, sheet music and records, host live music and events and are available for venue hire.

POETRY NIGHT (Deceonber)

Final poetry night of 2015 at Sappho is AVANT GAGA #22 with guest poets Jane Gibian, Astrid Lorange, Nick Whittock and Adrian Wiggins, plus the usual open section. Come along for drinks and tapas too!


is a poet and librarian whose publications include 'tidemark' (Vagabond Press Rare Object series) and 'Ardent' (Giramondo Publishing Company). Her work has been widely anthologised. In 2015 she was one of three judges for the inaugural Noel Rowe Poetry Award.

is a writer, editor and teacher. She lectures at UNSW Art & Design and curates the talk series Conspiracy at Minerva Gallery in Potts Point. How Reading is Written: A Brief Index to Gertrude Stein was published by Wesleyan University Press in 2014. She writes poems, essays, objects. 

Nick Whittock's 'covers' was published in 2004 by COD, 'the doon' in 2012 by vagabond and 'hows its' in 2014 by Inken Publisch. He has work in a forthcoming anthology of avant garde cricket poetry. Nick, born in NSW in Captain Thunderbolt country, is now living in Melbourne.
