Second Tuesday of March: poetry night at Sappho: special guests: Nathan Shepherdson, Fiona Wright, David Stavanger: plus open mic. Tapas and drinks at the bar. Free entry. 7pm. Bring your selves.

NATHAN SHEPHERDSON
is the author of five books of poetry, most recently The Day the Artists Stood Still Volume 1. He's won a number of awards including the Newcastle Poetry Prize, The Ulrick Prize, The Arts Qld Shapcott Award and the Mary Gilmore Award. He is a sometime collaborator with other poets including David Stavanger and Pascalle Burton, and with visual artists such as Alun Leach-Jones and Arryn Snowball. A small volume in translation is due for publication in Milan.

FIONA WRIGHT
is a writer, editor and critic from Sydney. Her poetry collection, Knuckled, won the 2012 Dame Mary Gilmore Award. She is currently a doctoral candidate at the University of Western Sydney’s Writing & Society Research Centre, and her next book, a collection of essays on hunger, is forthcoming from Giramondo this year.

DAVID STAVANGER
is a poet, writer and cultural producer. He is also the Co-Director of the QLD Poetry Festival. In 2013 he won the Thomas Shapcott Poetry Award and was also Australia’s inaugural Reader-in-Residence based at Brisbane Square Library. As his alter ego, Ghostboy, he is a Green Room nominated spoken word artist, who has won the Performance Poetry World Cup (Nimbin) and performed nationally and overseas. As Ghostboy he also established the thriving QLD poetry slam scene and has performed on stages around the world, both solo and with the band Golden Virtues. The Special (UQP), his first full-length collection of poetry, was recently launched at the QLD Poetry and Brisbane Writers Festivals. www.davidstavanger.com
