THE SAPPHO BAR will be hosting:

Welcome to Australia's grocery sector - where anti-competitive behaviour, predatory pricing, land-grabbing and shortchanged farmers are all part of the job. With Coles and Woolworths dominating not just food but petrol, hardware and liquor sales, this is the most concentrated market in the world. Alana asks: why should we care, and what are the alternatives?

Alana Mann teaches media and communications, and studies how ordinary citizens get engaged in activism. She is on the executive committee of the Australian Food Sovereignty Alliance (AFSA) and is a member of the Right to Food Coalition. Her book Global Activismin Food Politics: Power Shift was published in 2014. In a former life, she worked in marketing communications for The Sydney Morning Herald and The Smith Family. Her first job was on a checkout at Woolworths.
