Poetry Night

On the second Tuesday of March this year, the poetry night at Sappho falls on the date of famous hoax poet Ern Malley's 99th birthday. So, to commemorate this 'fake' occasion, a large collection of 'living' poets will come together to read some (maybe all) of Ern Malley's 16-poem oeuvre, and will perhaps read some of their own hoax poems. See what happens. As always, drinks and tapas at the bar, and FREE entry.

ERN MALLEY:
If you want to remind yourself of who Ern Malley:

If you want to read his poems:

GUEST POETS:
Include John Tranter, joanne burns, Amanda Stewart, Chris Edwards, Kate Middleton, Fiona Wright, a.j. carruthers, and many others.

OPEN MIC:
For the open mic section, if you want to read a poem this particular month, IT HAS TO BE A 'FAKE' POEM. Perhaps you could write an imitation of one of Ern's poems, or create your own Malley character...? Or do a hoax translation of a fictitious poet...? Or write a fake news poem, or a poem by Donald Trump...? Have some fun with it. There'll be up to 10 readers in the open section. 2 minutes each.

The Sappho Poetry Reading Series is supported by the Copyright Agency Cultural Fund.
