Getting Here

Sappho Books is a 15 minute walk from Central Station, or 431 and 433 buses depart regularly from Railway Square and stop opposite us at the public school.

If you’re driving, the best place to park is the Broadway Shopping Centre, which is just around the corner from us and has free parking for two hours.

Accessibility

The ground floor of the bookshop is wheelchair accessible, as is the café ordering counter and the deck, though the counter is high and there is a very small step to the deck. The upper floors of the bookshop are not wheelchair accessible, and there is a single step down to the side passage dining area, another single step down into the garden, and another down to the bathrooms.

When the bar is open, the entrance down the alley is wheelchair accessible but is uneven. There is a step down from the deck into the side passage and then into the garden and bathrooms as well, and the counter is quite high with a very small step just in front of it.

We have a ramp that the staff will be happy to place where you require for each of these steps.

We’re glad to be noticed…

Great book shop, with very knowledgeable staff one could browse for hours, nice coffee also, I didn’t try the food

I absolutely love the place! For a book lover it's a complete paradise, you get to read your favourite book in peace and enjoy the food and drink. The staffs are friendly and courteous. They have a restrooms inside so you won't need to worry, parking can be a bit difficult and the flies can be everywhere but all in all the experience was great. Looking forward for their open nights. I will surely be back again!

Came here a few years ago. Adored it then. Obsessed with the cat and vegan menu and multi-storied book collection. Am coming to Sydney again this weekend (from Brisbane) and cannot wait to visit again.

It's a gem. Always and forever. Mooch around the used books and then trouble the cafe staff for a coffee and bite to eat. Never change Sappho.

Love this bookstore and cafe. Great food options including for vegetarian and vegans. Can always find something new/unexpected in the bookstore. Must say hello to the bookstore cat!

Such a cute place, a highlight of our stay in Glebe for sure. Atmosphere was lovely, it was sweet meeting Charlie the cat and perusing the book store after our breakfast. The food was a little bit disappointing for the price we paid but the caramel latte I had was really yummy. Definitely worth dropping by if you’re in the area.

Reviewing this as a cafe - it’s a solid local place with good food. The food will not blow you away (their sauce for eggs Benedict is something to rather avoid), but it’s not bad or too overpriced overall. Great vibe and good coffee.

Amazing place, we felt like immersed in another world, forgetting about being in a place with millions of people around. The Chai latte was very delicious and priced very fair. Definitely worth a visit as there are many cool book as well :DThank you Sappho-Team 🙂

Great little bookstore… sadly no longer with a room of records, but otherwise always a joy to visit. Great cafe as well!

We love Sappho! The bar garden is awesome, the food is delish and the staff are lovely (and great dancers!)can't wait to play again 😉
A great place to unwind, it has got character (rustic, quirky and quaint). The coffee and crunchy rice were yummy!!! Good service too.
Beautiful, quaint place. Paradise for book lovers and some great food! Perfect for some alone time or with your kid or other book lovers 😊
This is my absolute favourite place to get away, drink good coffee and daydream as I browse the day away. I wish I lived closer so that I could visit every week... but then I would probably own an entire library of books 🤔😎
Great place for book fans, enjoy a coffee or some delicious food in the cafe. I dare you to leave without a book!
Quirky cafe with loads of character and cute little nooks for enjoying amazing food the best coffee around!
We had our 25th wedding anniversary party at Sappho. The staff put everything on seamlessly, we didn't have to do anything all night, just kick back and enjoy the food, drinks and company!
The books are amazing and the vibe is gorgeous. Would definitely recommend going there and checking it out, especially for the books and the cute cat upstairs!
I would like to thank everyone involved for ensuring that every aspect of our wedding night was exactly as we imagined. Friendly staff, incredible food and the cafe provided the perfect backdrop for photos.
It is on of the best cafe in Glebe & excellent vegetarian food, chai tea, latte - we have been returning to this establishment for past 10 years🎉
LoVe Sappho Bar! Fantastic setting & great staff (say hello to Jeb & Zoe)!Love their live music & especially the "Poetry" & "Open Mic" nights!Best place in Glebe!Highly recommended!
Haven't gone for breakfast or lunch. Night time in my opinion is the best time to be at Sappho's. Beautiful live music each time I've been. Relaxing, great vibe, great for anything, dates, meeting up with a friend for a drink. Staff are helpful and food and drinks are on point. I love everything about this place. It feels like I'm sitting in my backyard and someone has jazzed it up with fairy lights and a beautiful live band. Have introduced alot of friends to this place and each of them have adored it like I do.
A treasure trove, if you dig around. Most of the books are in good condition and I forgot to buy the book about faeries!! Will definitely return. Coffee is good, or could always go for their craft beers.
Sappho Books Cafe and Wine Bar, has been Emad's residency for nearly 6years. It's a great place for smokers and nonsmokers. It has a large back yard with tables and chairs, where one can meet people , have a drink or even read a book, have a birthday party or even get married there. I first knew Sappho as a book shop, and was a regular customer there, but in the last few years I have been helping my son Emad, by being his Roadie. We enjoy going there.
Nice relaxing atmosphere and good service. Looking forward to the poetry evenings this forthcoming 2017!
Amazing little find. Just stumbled across this restaurant whilst looking for someswhere to fulfil a cheeseboard craving. It was wonderful. Impressive wine list too. Was curious of the names of the 2 girls playing guitar and singing last friday night. Could u let me know?

🏳️‍🌈 We’re just as disappointed as everyone to hear about Mardi Gras Fair Day being cancelled, but we’ll still be here slinging books and drinks until late on Sunday!
💜 The bar will be open from 4pm on Sunday with music from DJ Tina Turnitup from 6pm, so come down to try our special one-off cocktail The Lavender Scare (a gin cocktail with essences of lavender and other garden botanicals, with an extra drop of locally-sourced honey)
Sappho Books, Cafe & Bar is a proudly queer- and independently- owned store on the stolen land of the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation.
